Rainbow Montessori school offers an environment that is nurturing, loving, secure, warm and happy.
One where the child can develop to his/her full potential. Here the child can have a sense of belonging, can be heard and respected.
We know that the child needs to feel included, and create environments where he/she has freedom to express his/her opinions; environments that give the child a voice, that uphold and build up his self-worth and self-confidence. This helps the child to build future friendships, be independent, kind, caring, to have patience, to know that there are consequences for actions; to have respect for his/her peers, friends, environment and for him/herself.
The Montessori child would, ideally, be in the same environment for a three year cycle, giving the child a sense of trust and stability. The younger children also learn from the older children, with the teacher setting the example.
Work is graduated from the concrete to the abstract, and from simple to complex and children easily have opportunities to experience a sense of achievement, thereby building their self-esteem. Academically the child develops a strong sense of self-motivation and love of learning.
The Montessori education is one that focusses on the individual child. Because all teaching is done on a one to one basis, the teacher easily gets to know the individual needs of each child and is able to take both their academic and emotional needs and insecurities into consideration and nurture them accordingly.
The Montessori classes have three-year cycles, and we strongly recommend that each full cycle is completed. Our Toddlers are from 18 months to 3 years of age, and this is where the foundations of the Montessori disciplines are laid. We then have the 3 – 6 year-olds’ Pre-School classes, which include Grade R. Our Primary school has two 6 – 9 classes (Grades 1 – 3); the intermediate phase, aged 9 – 12/13 (grades 4 – 6) and finally the start of the senior phase (aged 13 – 15).
The Montessori programme covers all work stipulated by the Department of Education and much more.
